System
The goal of LISICOS is the development of a sustained capability to observe the Long Island Sound ecosystem and to understand and predict its response to natural and anthropogenic changes.
To achieve this goal, a network of buoys and sensors has been deployed around the Sound which transmit in near real-time water quality and weather data back to UConn.
The near real-time data is published to the web not only for use by scientists, but also for a broad spectrum of users (recreational & commercial fisheries, maritime commerce & transportation, sailors, etc.) - enhancing the appreciation, knowledge and use of Long Island Sound.
